READING FAMILY NIGHT: The Niles City School District will collaborate with the McKinley Memorial Library to host Reading Family Night 5 to 7:15 p.m. today at Niles Primary School, 960 Frederick St. Students in grades K-3 and their families will take part in activities that center around William McKinley, the 25th president of the United States. There will be opportunities for students and families to learn early reading skills, play games, participate in mini-workshops and learn about Ohio’s grade 3 English Language Arts test.
CHURCH FUNDRAISER: A performance of “Church Basement Ladies” will be held March 14 at Trumbull New Theater, 5883 Youngstown Warren Road, Niles will be hosted by Grace United Methodist Church as a fundraiser for its food pantry. Ticket price of $16 will include refreshments at 6 p.m. and also at intermission. Curtain time is 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling Mary at 330-856 -5226. By mail: send a check made payable to Grace United Methodist Church and write TNT on memo line. Send with a SASE to Mary, 4063 Devon Drive SE, Warren.
The church food pantry, directed by 2017 Community Star Shirley Frazier serves over 100 families in need each month and is solely supported through donation and church fundraisers such as this theater event.
BACKPACK FUNDRAISER: The Howland United Methodist Church will hold the annual backpack program fundraiser 6 p.m. March 16 at Leo’s Ristorante in Howland. There will be a dinner, 50-50 raffle, basket raffle, silent auction items, and music with all funds to be used for the program which provides food to Howland school children in need. The program feeds 215 students. Call Lannie at 330-219-1025 for tickets and reservations. The program allows people to adopt a child for $150 which provides food for weekends for an entire school year.
RABBIT LISTENERS: Read to Some Bunny will be held 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the Cortland Library Branch. Children in grades K-6 can sign up to read aloud to registered and certified therapy rabbit for 15-minute sessions. Rabbits are provided by F5RS (Frisky Ferrets, Fuzzies and Feather Friends Rescue and Sanctuary). Registration is required call (330) 638-6335 to sign up.
COMMITTEE MEETS: The Addictions and Mental Health Program committee will nmeet 4:30 p.m. today in the board conference room of Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board.
