Civic League to sponsor Women’s History program

WOMEN’S HISTORY EVENT: The Warren Civic League will sponsor its biennial Women’s History program 4 p.m. March 18 at Grace AME Church, 1137 Main St., Warren. The theme is “Women in Politics, We Need to Know.” The event will also honor Trumbull County African-American women engaged in the political process.

Speakers include former East Cleveland Councilwoman Chantelle Lewis, a candidate for lieutenant governor; former Ohio Supreme Court Justice William O’Neill, and Akron City councilwoman Tara Samples, a lieutenant governor candidate.

The event is free.

SPRING MEETING: The Bristol Historical Society will hold its annual Spring Meeting, beginning with dinner, 6:30 p.m. March 13 at the Bristol Town Hall. The program will feature a presentation of “World War on the Homefront” by Steve Papalas of Niles.

The public is welcome. Anyone attending is asked to bring a covered dish, casserole or dessert for the meal, and your own table service.

DAY OF PI: PI Day will be held 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 14 at the OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology Youngstown. Participants will celebrate Albert Einstein’s birthday and the peculiar number Pi all day with contests and hands-on activities.

Those attending will receive $3.14 reduced admission rate if they bring in a pre-packaged pie to donate. Call 330-744-5914.

CREATE GREETING CARDS: Create Your Own Greeting Cards will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the McKinley Birthplace Home, 40 S. Main St., Niles. Participants can select the occasion and create own cards for St. Patrick’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter, graduation, wedding, shower and birthday.

LUCK OF IRISH: St. Stephen Parish in Niles will hold the annual Luck of the Irish fundraiser March 17 at Ciminero’s Banquet Centre in Niles. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. There will be dinner, dessert, gift baskets and prizes.

There will be live auction with 12 seats for an April 22 dinner prepared by the Rev. James Korda, president of Catholic Television Network of Youngstown and administrator at St. Stephen Church in Niles, and Lisa Abraham, cookbook author, former Tribune Chronicle writer, and retired food editor at the Columbus Dispatch and Akron Beacon Journal. They will prepare the food for the winner.

OFFICERS NAMED: Niles Historical Society has named new officers for the 2018 — Anna Marie Beagle, president; David Martin, vice president; Coleen Tominey, secretary; and Lynda Ralston, treasurer.

The society’s annual dinner will be held 6 p.m. April 19 at the Ciminero’s Banquet Centre. The speaker is Sandra Zikurish, who will discuss humor and facts on the topic “Life in the Western Reserve: A Glimpse into Pioneer Life.” Tickets are $25 per person by calling 330-652-8329.
