Vienna Historical Society to present yearbook archive

MATHEWS HIGH SCHOOL HISTORY ON DISPLAY: The Vienna Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township hall, where members of the society’s board of directors will present the society’s Vienna and Mathews High School yearbook archive. A printed copy of the first yearbook, the 1936 Vi-Hi, will be on hand. The society has about 40 yearbooks. Anyone who would like to donate a Vienna or Mathews yearbook can.

MCKINLEY CELEBRATION: A birthday celebration for William McKinley will be 11 a.m. today at Poland Village town hall, 308 S. Main St. The program will include a portrayal of Republican candidate William McKinley when he campaigned in Poland in 1896.

DIOCESE SPEAKER: First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown will hold its speaker series with Bishop George Murry of the Diocese of Youngstown 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Georgetown in Boardman. His topic will be “The Church Today.” For reservations or information, call 330-720-4498.

LECTURER WELCOMED AT DANA: The Dana School of Music will hold a program by Nicole Biamonte titled “Interactions of Rhythm with Texture and Form in Popular Music” at 4 p.m. Friday in Bliss Recital Hall. The lecture is free to the public. Her topic is on aspects of popular music — rhythm, the use of rhythmic dissonance in multiple layers of the musical texture, the high degree of repetition and the brief length of repeated units. Biamonte is associate professor of music theory at McGill University.
