Donated cereal provides meals

CEREAL BOX DRIVE: A cereal box drive is being held through Saturday and during the McKinley Christmas celebration noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the McKinley Memorial Library, National McKinley Birthplace Museum, the McKinley Birthplace Home and the Ward-Thomas House.

People are asked to donate a box of cereal to support holiday meals provided by Niles Community Services. Everyone who donates a box of cereal will be entered to win a Christmas gift basket, which is on display at the library.

COMMUNITY CONCERT: The Cortland Community Band and Choir will present a holiday concert 7 p.m. Monday at Lakeview High School auditorium. The event is being sponsored by Lakeview Outreach and Fellowship. A freewill offering will be accepted, with proceeds to benefit LOAF, which sponsors variety of projects in the Cortland area. Dress is casual.

PRANCE AROUND THE TREE: Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, Mahoning Avenue, Warren, will hold a ”Prance Around the Tree” 11 a.m. Saturday for children 19 months to 35 months old.

CHRISTMAS MUSICAL: First Baptist Church of Niles, 26 E. Church St., will present a Christmas musical and drama ”The Love of God at Christmas” 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The event is free, with refreshments to be served.

WHITE CHRISTMAS: The Girard Historical Society will have the Barnhisel House, 1011 N. State St. open for the holidays from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The theme is ”White Christmas.” The society will raffling a homemade quilt on Sunday at the end of the open house.

HISTORY OF SANTA: Dr. George W. Johnson will speak noon Saturday in the Carriage House behind The Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave., Youngstown, on the History of Santa Claus. The lecture hosted by the Mahoning Valley Historical Society is included with regular museum admission.

Johnson has been collecting antique Christmas decorations for more than 30 years and is a member of the Golden Glow of Christmas Past, a club for enthusiasts of Christmas memorabilia.
