Celebration at Mosquito Lake

MOSQUITO LAKE PARK WEEKEND: Mosquito Lake State Park in Bazetta is concluding the summer with a Labor Day weekend celebration today through Sunday with different events. Today will be stand-up paddle boarding at 4:30 and 6 p.m. at the beach. A night hike will be 8:30 p.m. at the trail head. Saturday events include archery at 10 a.m. at the archery range, rainstick craft at 12:30 p.m., butterflies at 3:30 p.m., birds at 5 p.m., ice cream extravaganza at 6:30 p.m., and movie ”Alice in Wonderland” 8:30 p.m. at the amphitheater. On Sunday is paddling basics at 10 a.m. at the beach, arts and crafts at 1:30 p.m., bingo at 3 p.m., basic archery at 4:30 p.m., fishing fundamentals at 6:30 p.m. and movie ”Pinocchio” at the amphitheater. PATRIOT DAY: A Patriot Day will be 6 p.m. Thursday at Quaker Steak and Lube, 5800 Interstate Blvd., Austintown, to honor area military personnel. The event will include a skydiver landing in the parking lot. There will be a ceremony to honor local veterans from World War II to Afghanistan. All military personnel in uniform or with a military identification will receive discounts on meals.

LIBRARIES CLOSED: The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library main branch and the other branches will be closed Monday for Labor Day. The main library will be open 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays starting Sept. 10.

OPEN HOUSE: Perkinswood Chapel, 920 Perkinswood Blvd SE, Warren, will hold an open house 4 to 6 p.m. today. There will be tours of the building, which was constructed in 1947. There will be refreshments.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: West Side Cats, 2217 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, a non-profit, all-volunteer cat shelter, is in need of volunteers to help take care of rescued cats and kittens. The shelter takes care of cats that are hurt, abused or ill. For information, call Marie at 330-519-5002.

ARCHERY PROGRAM: Hubbard Conservation Club, 1760 Wick Campbell Road, Hubbard, will hold a 3-D archery shoot 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Call 330-550-4250.
