Gustavus park includes pavilion

GUSTAVUS TO DEDICATE NEW PARK: Gustavus officials will dedicate a new township park off state Route 87 around 11 a.m. Tuesday following the 10 a.m. July 4 parade. The park has a pavilion, playground, benches and restrooms made possible with fundraising and gas well lease money saved by township.

The July 4 celebration will include games, face painting, kiddie tractor pull, tot king and queen contest, turtle races, Gustavus scholarship winner, a dunk tank and magician Michael Mage at 12:30 p.m. Those in the turtle race are asked to bring their own turtles.

GARDENING PROGRAM: Trumbull County Master Gardeners will host a free garden program 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Trumbull Agriculture and Family Education Center, 520 W. Main St., Cortland. The topic is American chestnut trees.

SOCIETY PLANS CAMPS: The Mahoning Valley Historical Society is hosting two summer camps at the Tyler Mahoning Valley Historical Center. The “My Town, Your town, Youngstown Summer Day Camp” for ages 8 to 12 will be July 10 to 14. Participants will explore local history in five days with field trips, career driven projects and activities. Young Historians Summer Camp for ages 12 to 15 will be July 24 to 28.

LAWN CONCERTS: The McKinley Memorial Library summer ”Music on the Lawn” is 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday on the front lawn of the memorial. This week is the Cortland Community Band.

FOWLER MARKET: The Fowler Market, 3385 Youngstown Kingsville Road, is open every Sunday noon to 4 p.m. on the grounds of the former Neal Middle School in Fowler. During summer months the event is held outside.

TCAP SUMMER CRISIS PROGRAM: The Trumbull Community Action Program, 1230 Palmyra Road SW, Warren, will be operating its summer crisis program through Aug. 31. Eligible households could qualify for one or a combination of the following: an air conditioner and/or fans, a one-time payment up to a total maximum benefit of $300 towards the electric bill from a regulated utility company or up to a total maximum benefit of $500 if the utility company is non-regulated. Total household income must be at or below 175 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and is based on gross income over the past three months or the past 12 months. Appointments are available at TCAP Tuesday through Friday. Call 1-866-747-1041 to schedule an appointment. On Mondays, only at TCAP, walk-in applicants will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis for those 60 and older.
