ROTARY CLUB PRESIDENT: The Rotary Club of Cortland selected Thomas Shortreed as the service club’s new president. Shortreed presented his vision and goals during a reception June 6 at Squaw Creek Country Club.

Among his goals, Shortreed listed growing the club’s membership and strengthening service to the community. He noted the club’s list of efforts and fundraising activities including its annual golf outing, Howl at the Moon 5K race and Fly the Flag program. The club has also partnered with the Rotary Club of Warren to raise awareness and funding to combat and assist victims of acid attacks in Uganda.

Beverly Hoagland, vocational chair, presented the Business of the Year Award to Bowers Insurance Agency. The award was accepted by Rick Rose and Ben and Rainey Bowers.

Rick Rose and Patrick O’Connor were recognized as Paul Harris Fellows honoring their outstanding service and financial support of Rotary International. Donna Zuga was honored as Rotarian of the Year for her work as club service chair.

Others recognized included Dr. Thomas Montgomery, Dr. Jagdish Patel, Ed Jakubick, Dennis Nisbett and Jim Noel.
