OHIO HOMECOMING QUEEN: Erin Sindledecker, daughter of Dwayne and Kathy Sindledecker of Warren, has been selected a finalist for Ohio’s 37th annual Homecoming Queen Selection, to be held Sunday at the Holiday Inn Cincinnati North-West Chester in West Chester.

HOWLAND GETS FIRST PLACE GRANT: A committee of Howland High School parents is organizing a post-prom event at for all Howland junior and senior students in order to keep students safe. In February, the committee submitted an essay, budget and PowerPoint presentation for the Herren Project Purple and Proud Grant, which was set up for schools needing assistance to host a post-prom event.

The committee was notified on April 14 that Howland was awarded the first place grant of $2,000.

Following prom on May 13, students will be transported by bus to Fun N Stuff in Macedonia. They will only host Howland High School students for an all-night party.

Students can win door prizes and various colleges and pro sports teams donated items. A local business donated a $500 scholarship / cash prize to be awarded to a student who attends.

ADULT EDUCATION: The office of Adult Basic and Literacy Education will conduct a free four-part Volunteer Tutor Training Workshop at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center, 528 Educational Highway, Champion. Tutors will be trained to work with adults who need to learn to read better.

Evening training sessions will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 15, 17, 22 and 24 at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center. The workshop includes methods that will enable community volunteers to work with adults with both ease and confidence and does not require prior teaching experience.

Tutors will be working one-on-one with a variety of learners every week. All materials are provided.
