Series focuses on local history

BLACK HISTORY SPEAKERS: The Warren Heritage Center will present the third annual ”Black History of Warren” series 6 p.m today and Tuesday at Kinsman House, 303 Mahoning Ave., Warren. Speakers for the series will be Mayor Doug Franklin, Councilwoman Helen Rucker and a surprise visit from a famous historic figure from the past.

UAW HOSTS PROGRAM: The United Autoworkers Local 1112 will celebrate Black History Month 11 a.m. today and Tuesday at the GM Lordstown Assembly Plant East.

WATCH GROUP HELPS: The Vienna Township Neighborhood Watch is helping Mathews PTO in collecting Boxtops for Education. The public is being asked to help the school reach its goal by bringing box tops and placing them in the box tops bin. Box Tops can be found on General Mills Products and the school can cash them in to purchase things they need such as, books, computers, playground equipment.

ST. DAVID SOCIETY TO MEET: The St. David Society of Youngstown will hold its 126th annual St. David’s Day banquet in honor the the Patron Saint of Wales 2:30 p.m. Saturday at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. The banquet is a signature event of St. David Society and is always held on the Saturday closest to St. David Day on March 1. Entertainment will be provided by the Youngstown Connection. NOWLIN GUEST ARTIST AT YSU: The YSU Department of Art is hosting a new Red Press Collaborative installment featuring guest artist Kristen Powers Nowlin Monday to Wednesday in Room 4025, Bliss Hall. Patrons may stop by any day during that week 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to observe the printmaking process. A reception will be 4 p.m. Monday in Room 4025. All events are free.
