Fundraiser aids Mission of Love

MISSION OF LOVE HOLDS MARDI GRAS EVENT: The Mission of Love will host a Mardi Gras fundraiser 7 to 11 p.m. Tuesday at the Manor Restaurant, 3014 S. Canfield Niles Road, Austintown. There will be live music, silent auction, 50-50 raffle and basket raffle.

Mission of Love is an all-volunteer grassroots organization formed in 1989. Donations go to people in need, including the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and orphaned, sick and disabled in need. Volunteers will leave March 3 for the seventh annual cleft lip palate surgery week.

TYLER CENTER CLOSED: The Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, 325 W. Federal St., Youngstown, will be closed to the public beginning today to prepare for Cookie Table and Cocktails. The Archives library and the Calling All Cars exhibit will also be closed.

ALUMNI LECTURE SERIES: The Lordstown Alumni Lecture Series will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lordstown High School in Lecture Hall B. This is the series third session.

The series lets students hear from alumni of Lordstown High School about their career choices, what led them to their current position and the opportunities that are available in the field. The series is part of Lordstown School’s focus on Career Readiness.

This event’s topic is ”Business with emphasis on Human Resources and Retail Management.”

HELPING CHILDREN: Area Long John Silver’s restaurants are participating in a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals promotion this month, with donations going to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.

Locations are in 3560 Belmont Ave., Liberty; 2170 Millennium Blvd., Bazetta; and 150 S. Hermitage Road, Hermitage, Pa., are selling Miracle Balloons for $1 throughout February. The paper balloons are personalized and displayed in the restaurants throughout February.

All dollars collected at these locations support programs at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Long John Silver’s has raised nearly $18,000 for Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley during that time.
