Bike to Work Day plans set

WARREN — The sixth annual Bike to Work Day is planned for 6 to 9 a.m. May 19, with a meeting site set at the log cabin in Courthouse Square in downtown Warren.

Organizers met recently to plan the event and are seeking donations and volunteers to help.

Jenna Amerine of Creating Healthy Communities and the Trumbull County Combined Health District, said the event is designed to promote physical activity and have people using bicycles that day as a mode of transportation.

“We are asking people to ride their bike that morning. They will receive a T-shirt and the chance to win prizes,” Amerine said.

The committee planning the event needs donations of gifts, cups, bottled water, silverware and finger food.

Amerine said people can simply show up that day riding their bicycles. She said in recent years, there has been increased attendance with people coming from Bazetta, Lordstown, Howland and Warren.

John Brown of the Trumbull County MetroParks said many people look forward to the event, with both people going to work that day participating or just people, including retirees, who want to ride their bikes taking part.

The event is sponsored by Creating Healthy Communities, Warren city and and Trumbull MetroParks.

The next committee meeting is noon March 31 at Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership offices, 170 N Park Ave. For information, call 330-675-7807.
