Help spread cheer to troops

POSTCARDS FOR TROOPS: Postcards are available at all Home Savings retail branch offices for area residents and customers to send holiday greetings to servicemen and women. Anyone who wants to stop in and write a personal thank you to troops for the holidays is welcome to do so.

The Holiday Mail for Heroes program is the effort of the American Red Cross to enable Americans to “Give Something That Means Something.”

CHRISTMAS COOKIE BAKE-OFF: A Christmas cookie bake-off will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Chalker Building off state Route 305 near Southington Center. Entrants will be there at 1 p.m. Judging will be based on presentation and taste. Judge’s choice $100 and people’s choice $25.

GAME NIGHT: Game Night for children in fifth to eighth grades will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library in Warren.

NAMI ART SHOW: The National Alliance on Mental Illness will hold an art show noon to 2 p.m. today at community center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. The event will feature the artwork of those with mental illness.

Prizes will be presented an winning pieces will be framed and displayed at new Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board offices.

LEAF COLLECTION: Howland Township is holding a leaf collection through Dec. 13. All leaves and grass must be placed in paper biodegradable bags only. Any size bag is acceptable.

Republic Services and Waste Management have agreed to pick up to 10 bags of leaves at no additional charge. Call 330-856-6464 for more information.
