Girl Scouts to sing Christmas carols
SEEING EYE
CHRISTMAS CAROLING: Members of Girl Scout Service Unit 807 will be singing Christmas carols noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Elms, 2300 Plaza Ave., Warren, behind the Elm Road Giant Eagle. Those attending are asked to park behind the building. Those Girl Scouts participating are being asked to bring Christmas cards, ornaments and non-perishable food items to donate to the residents’ food bank at the building. MISSION NEEDS TOYS; The Warren Family Mission is collecting new and unwrapped Christmas gifts for children from infant to age 18. Items are being collected Monday through Friday at the mission, 150 Tod Ave. NW, Warren. Tax deductible donations can be accepted.
CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION: St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church will present its second annual “A Christmas Celebration” event Saturday at the Byzantine Center at the Grove, 3801 Shady Run Road, Youngstown. “A Christmas Celebration,” which is open to the public, includes a visit by St. Nicholas with gifts for the children and a live concert by The Singing Revilak Family from Slovakia. The event also will feature a basket raffle and poinsettia sale. Advance reservations are required and may be made by calling 330-743-0419 or via email to byzantinecenter@aol.com. The deadline for reservations is Tuesday.
RED NOSE GRANT: Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley has received a $10,989 grant from the Red Nose Day Fund, which will be used to support children at risk of hunger through various child hunger programs, including BackPack and School Pantries. This latest contribution from Red Nose Day will impact more than 1,825 children in need in the Mahoning Valley. Red Nose Day raises awareness and money to end child poverty, supporting programs that help to keep kids safe, healthy and educated. The grant for Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley is one of 200 provided this year by the Red Nose Day Fund to Feeding America member food banks.
Since launching in the U.S. in 2015, more than $4.5 million of Red Nose Day funds have been allocated to Feeding America to support child hunger initiatives. Funds go to all partner organizations in the national Feeding America network, which spans all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
