Horseman rides into celebrate

LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW: Greene Eagle Winery, 2576 Davis Peck Road, Cortland will host the sixth annual presentation of  “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” today and Saturday and Oct. 28 and 29. The free event brings out the Headless Horseman by hosting an array of activities and vendors. Activities begin at 4 p.m. with the exception starting at noon Saturday with a Revolutionary War re-enactment. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow narration and Headless Horseman ride will take place shortly before dusk each night. A costume contest will be Oct. 29 and first place will be awarded for best adult and best child costume. Children can also enjoy pumpkin and face painting. On Saturday at noon will be a re-enactment of the Revolutionary War performed by the “Ramrod Busters.” Proceeds from the 50 / 50 raffle will benefit Homes For Kids / Child and Family Solutions. On Oct. 28, proceeds will benefit the Mahoning Valley Dream Center.

COLLECTING WINTER CLOTHING: The Champion Pride Council will be collecting gently used and new winter clothing for children and teens through today at district school buildings. The clothing closet will be open 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Champion Central School gymnasium.

LEAF PICKUP IN HOWLAND: Howland Township is holding a leaf pickup Monday through Dec. 13. All leaves and grass must be placed in paper biodegradable bags only with any size bag acceptable. Republic Services and Waste Management will pick up 10 bags of leaves per week at no additional charge with regular trash collection.

TEENS MONSTER MASH: Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Avenue NW, will hold a Monster Mash for teens in grades seventh to 12th at 5 p.m. Monday. Teams will have 100 minutes to complete the secret challenge using a pantry of craft supplies.

BRACEVILLE CHURCH EVENT: Braceville Christian Church, located near the township hall, will hold a Trunk or Treat 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31. Coffee, hot chocolate and hot dogs will be served  and a free gift will be given to each child.

NIGHT AT THE RACES: Friends of Fido and Legacy Dog Rescue will be holding a Night at the Races Saturday at the Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian, Youngstown. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the first race running at 7. In addition to the Chinese auction, there will be a 50 / 50 raffle, lottery tree, food and alcohol for sale. GHOST WALK:  Weathersfield Township Historic Ghost Walk will be 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the former middle school property off Route 46 that will include a ghost story, an outdoor movie and free food.
