Mesopotamia marks 43rd year for ox roast

MESOPOTAMIA -The Mesopotamia Volunteer Firemen’s Association will host the 43rd annual Ox Roast and antiques and flea market, the fire department’s main fundraiser for equipment and gear, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The free event will be at the center at state routes 87 and 534 and will include roast beef sandwiches, an antiques and flea market with 160 dealers, vendors, live entertainment and games.

The Mesopotamia Fireman’s association was founded in 1972 to help raise money and recruit members to form a fire department. The fire department started with a single truck in 1977 and has grown each year with the addition of volunteers and equipment to face the challenges of a small rural fire department. The department responds to both fire and medical emergencies.

Friday’s schedule includes the Chardon Polka Band at 10 a.m., Jungle Terry at 1 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. Woodpeckers.

Saturday’s schedule includes Mosquito Creek Band 9:30 a.m., Jungle Terry 1 p.m., 2 Men and Campfire 2 p.m., and Fort Huntsburg Band at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday’s schedule includes Rock’n Country Cloggers at 10 a.m., and Take II at 1 p.m.

The department responds to both fire and medical emergencies.

The event is free with parking at the fire station.
