Law Day honors local students

WARREN – Local elementary, middle and high school students were recognized for their artwork, essays and multi-media projects at Law Day 2016 hosted by the Trumbull County Bar Association.

This year’s event was held at the Hippodrome in Warren.

Law Day was started in 1958 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower as a way to focus on and remember liberty, justice and equality under the law which our nation’s forefathers bequeathed to its citizens.

The first Law Day was held May 1, 1958, and is held the first Thursday in May.

In addition to the art and poster winners who received cash awards, the 2016 mock trial winners were recognized and included two teams from Struthers High School.

Eighteen students from nine local high school took part in the ”Shadow Program,” where they spent a day with local lawyers, judges and magistrates to see what their day is like. The 2016 Volunteers of the Year awards selected by the Pro-Bono Committee were attorneys Philip Zuzolo and Ashley Hall.

The Trumbull County Probate Court seminar will be Oct. 7 at Ciminero’s Banquet Center in Niles.
