Mall holding its holiday art sale

HOLIDAY EXHIBIT AT GALLERY: The Art Outreach Gallery in the Eastwood Mall in Niles is holding its holiday exhibition and sale featuring artwork created by area artists including artists from the Random Acts of Artist and the Community Artworks groups through Jan. 3, 2016. The gallery is located inside the JC Penney concourse next to GNC. Artists give back to the gallery by volunteering to sit or provide artists workshops. CHRISTMAS STORYTELLER: Youngstown State University professor emeritus Regina Rees will tell not usually heard Christmas stories from the past 10 a.m. Saturday at Kravitz’s Deli meeting room, 3135 Belmont Ave., Liberty. The program will include ancient tales, traditional Santa Claus and nutcracker fare. Free admission. There will be a 50-50 raffle.

FREE HEALTH SCREENINGS: Mercy Health Youngstown, formerly Humility of Mary Health Partners, will provide free blood pressure, blood sugar and blood cholesterol screenings 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 22. at the Cortland SCOPE center, 125 North Bank St. Screenings are provided through Mercy Health’s Neighborhood Health Watch program and are first come, first served. CITIZEN POLICE TRAINING: Citizen’s Police Awareness Academy Training classes are scheduled to begin Jan. 4 Interested residents can obtain an application from the Warren’s website (“http://www.warren.org”>www.warren.org) or by stopping by the Warren Police Department’s records department, 141 South St. between 9 a.m to 3 p.m. This course is open to all Trumbull County residents The purpose of the academy is to give residents a “behind the scenes look to the day to day operations of the police department”. The six-week course has covered; use of deadly force, sex offender registration, crime scene investigation, tour of the county jail and , K9 unit and Internal Affairs. Participants are also permitted to do a police ride along. Since the program started, more than 450 residents in Trumbull and Mahoning counties have submitted applications to be participants.
