Coat collection heats up at inn
WINTER COATS COLLECTION: The Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Warren is collecting clean, reusable winter coats for those in need through Dec. 24 as part of the ”Warm Coats from Warm Hearts.” Donations can be dropped off at at 135 Highland Terrace Blvd., Warren, or by calling 330-544-8807.
FOP PLANS HOLIDAY EVENTS: The Trumbull County Deputies FOP # 137 is taking part in various holiday events this month, including honoring the Trumbull 911 Center with awards and food, visiting veterans at Washington Square Nursing Home in Warren and at the Eastwood Mall ringing the Salvation Army bell at various locations. This week, the deputies took part in Shop with a Cop.
MISSION PLANS CHRISTMAS EVENT: The Warren Family Mission is planning its annual holiday meal noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 23 at 155 Tod Ave. NW, Warren. The mission is planning to serve more than 1,500 people for Christmas, including at the facility, to-go’s, and deliveries. Meals will be delivered to elderly shut-in and handicapped that call in ahead and order a meal.
The mission will hold its Winterfest 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for children up to age 14. There will be a live nativity, face painting, Santa Claus and crafts.
SANTA COMING TO TOWN: The Ernie Hall Aviation Museum, 4033 N. River Road, Howland, will welcome Santa Claus 3 to 5 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Sloas Airfield. COLLECTION CONCLUDES: Howland Township’s leaf pickup and yard waste collection will conclude Saturday with items being picked up today and Saturday. All leaves and grass must be placed in paper biodegradable bags only.
BENEFIT CONCERT: Youngstown Area Community Concert Band and Stambaugh Chorus will host the 5th annual Holiday Concert of Giving 4 p.m. Sunday at Stambaugh Auditorium to raise money to feed hungry families in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Admission is a cash donation to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. You also can make an additional donation in the upper lobby to win a chance to conduct “Sleigh Ride” on stage with the Youngstown Area Community Concert Band. For every $1 given at the concert, the food bank can distribute $11 worth of food to families that need it this holiday season. The concert has raised more than $13,000 to feed hungry families. SOCKS FOR VETS: During the McKinley Christmas event noon to 4 p.m. Friday in Niles, socks will be collected for veterans at the McKinley Memorial Library and McKinley Replica House. Drop off locations will be set up.
PET PHOTOS WITH SANTA: Pets and children’s pictures with Santa Claus will be taken 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Western Reserve Farm Cooperative, 312 S. Mecca St., Cortland. All proceeds will benefit less fortunate pets in Trumbull County.
The Animal Welfare League’s holiday extravaganza will be held noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, with pet photos with Santa from noon to 4 p.m. at the shelter, 812 Youngstown Kingsville Road.
