Stand Against Racism at YWCA

VIOLINIST TO PERFORM AT EVENT: The YWCA of Warren will be hosting world renowned violinist Jerald Daemyon today at the Stand Against Racism event. Daemyon will perform for children and youth in the YWCA’s After School Child Care and mentoring programs. Daemyon is a native of Detroit and a member of the National Academy of Recording Artists and Scientists, which operates the Grammy Awards. Stand Against Racism is a nationwide event to raise awareness of racism and bring together community stakeholders to engage in civil conversation. The event is incorporated into curricula for students. The public is welcome at 5:30 p.m. and can screen selections from the film “Hidden Colors 3: The Rules of Racism.” The event will include a community conversation moderated by Erik Boyd, leader of the Students of True African History group.

LITTER CLEANUP SET IN LIBERTY: Liberty Township will hold its 20th annual community litter cleanup from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Any club, groups or families interested in cleaning an area can meet at the township administration building to be assigned a street to clean. SPEAKER TO DISCUSS BYWAY: Mike Hocker, Ohio’s Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor executive director, will talk about America’s first coast-to-coast paved road 2 p.m. Sunday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave., NW, Warren. The lecture and video presentation covers the paradigm shift in the way America traveled – the birth of automobile travel as we know it today; including the shift from railroads, the beginning of the summer vacation, fast food, the motel and more.
