Warren group to host garden walk

WARREN – The Community Concerned Citizens II is sponsoring its sixth annual Victorious Garden Walk from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the gardens off York Avenue near Jackson Street S.W.

Mary Ann Franklin of CCC said the public is invited to browse through the urban community garden.

“Everyone can see the new improved high tunnel greenhouse and the handicapped-accessible garden. There is also beautiful raised bed gardens done by Deryck Toles’ Inspiring Minds children / youth project,” she said.

There is an Earth Angel farm garden, Agape Church children’s summer program garden, and a produce market. Franklin said 40 family plots have everything from asparagus to zucchini.

The day’s events will include a chef in the garden under the pergola preparing items from the garden including fried green tomatoes, French fried okra and green beans.

Also to take place will be a 50-50 raffle, veggie basket raffle, and a corn sale from Lutz Farm.

The garden is located on the property at the rear of the former Horace Mann Elementary School.

Franklin said the garden sponsors are the Raymond John Wean Foundation’s Neighborhood SUCCESS, Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. Warren Chamber ECC Foundation, Trumbull 100, Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.
