Summerfest set for Brookfield
SUMMERFEST SET IN BROOKFIELD: The Brookfield United Methodist Church off Route 7 will host its fifth annual Summerfest Saturday and Sunday at the township center green. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Activities on Saturday are Brookfield 5k road race at 9:30 a.m., children’s crafts noon to 2 p.m., Ellen Jessup Memorial bike and wagon parade at 3 p.m., community parade at 5 p.m. High 5 the Clown at 5:30 to 8;30 p.m. worship entertainment at gazebo at 6:30 p.m. and movie, “God’s Not Dead” at 9 p.m. Sunday events are community church service at gazebo at 10 a.m., car cruise noon to 4 p.m., pet parade 1 p.m., bed races 4:30 p.m. Both days will include antique tractor display, basket raffle, craft show, magic, games and food. HISTORY PROGRAM AT MUSEUM: “A Nation Divided” will be the topic of a program for children from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Arms Family Mission in Youngstown. Participants will make butter, play games, and make crafts while learning about the Civil War. Call 330-743-2589.

LOCAL FAMILIES NEEDED: Local families are being invited to “Share Your America” with a high school exchange student from one of 70 countries during the upcoming school year. The students are being sponsored by PAX Program of Academic Exchange when they arrive this month. PAX students are ages 15 to 18, have studied English for at least three years and want to experience American activities with their host families. All families are welcome. HUNTINGTON BANK AND UNITED WAY DISTRIBUTE BACKPACKS: Huntington Bank and United Way will give away 700 backpacks this week to area children to equip them for the upcoming school year. The giveaway is part of Huntington’s annual backpack program in partnership with the United Way “Stuff the Bus” program. This year, Huntington is giving 15,000 backpacks to children in need across its 11 markets. Backpacks in the Warren area will be distributed at 10 a.m. today at 108 Main Ave., Warren, corner of Main and Market streets.
