ADVENTURES IN THE OUTDOORS: The Howland Township Summer Youth Sport and Recreation program will hold “Outdoor Adventures” from 9 a.m. to noon Monday to Aug. 8 at Howland Township Park. The program is for ages 6 to 13. Children must register with forms available at the township Administration Building, 205 Niles-Cortland Road N.E. For information, call 330-856-2340.
DECIPHERING FOOD LABELS: A Healthy Eating for You: Label Reading presentation will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Humility House, 755 Ohltown Road, Austintown. The program will help people learn to decipher the valuable information on food labels and determine how it relates to your health. Registered dietician / community educator Bridget Lackey will lead the discussion. The presentation is free to the public. Reservations call 330-480-3070.
GROUP WORKS ON ART PROJECT: NEXT Best Art, a nonprofit located in downtown Youngstown, is working to create a new public art space for Youngstown. The window gallery will be situated in the westward-facing window of Silver’s Vogue Shop, corner of West Federal and Phelps streets. and feature contemporary artists from around the world. The Kickstarter earlier this month will end at noon on Friday.
The window gallery is being launched as a pilot project to drive further works of public art, support, and funding with a long-term goal of opening a contemporary art museum downtown. CHURCH HOSTS EVENT: New Jerusalem Fellowship Renaissance Place, 1943 Palmyra Road S.W., Warren, will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday to Saturday. All proceeds benefit the community youth center.
DOG PHOTO CONTEST OFFERED: A calendar fundraiser for an animal shelter in Austintown called For the Love of Dogs will feature people with their rescues. Individuals who don’t have one will feature one of our dogs to help get them a home. To submit a photo go to the GoFundMe account (gofundme.com/b7ku5w) and then submit a picture to be added to the photo album to start getting votes. The 12 applicants who get the most votes will get a photoshoot with a rescue dog. Submissions are accepted until Thursday and final voting day is Aug. 15.
