Family garden day planned

FAMILY GARDEN DAY AT CENTER: A Family Garden Fair and Strawberry Social will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Trumbull County Agriculture and Family Education Center, 520 W. Main St., Cortland. Admission is free.

Featured activities will take place in the Sunplace Special Children’s Garden and include the Cortland Community Band in concert. The event will include STEM activities, face painting, and garden program. Those attending should bring a lawn chair.

The event is sponsored by the OSU Extension Master Gardener volunteers. The Ohio State University Extension Office is marking its 100th anniversary.

BENEFIT PLANNED: A benefit for Victor A. Nolen will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion Hall, 1029 N. Main St., Niles. Nolen is a veteran of the U.S. Army and truck driver who was diagnosed with Stage 3 inoperable lung cancer in May.

BUTTERFLY PROGRAM FOR KIDS: A Backyards for Butterflies will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cortland Branch Library. Amy Reeher, Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District watershed coordinator, will provide a presentation about attracting butterflies to your yard and garden. Learn the basics for butterflies and find out more about the common species in Ohio.

Participants will receive free educational materials about butterflies.
