Cortland hosts garden walk

GARDEN WALK SET FOR CORTLAND: The Cortland-Bazetta Historical Society is hosting a Cortland Garden Walk from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 28. Five gardens with three of them in Cortland, one in Bazetta and the last north of town will be displayed. Maps and tickets will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day at Country in the City on South Bank Street.

Tickets need punched at each location. At the last garden visited, tour takers will deposit their tickets in a container for a chance to win a prize.

FIRST AID FOR DOGS: The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley will present the course “Dog First Aid” from noon to 3 p.m. June 29 at the Youngstown All-Breed Training Club, 13210 Mahoning Ave., North Jackson. Pre-registration is required at 800-733-2767 and ask for Offering No. 03009642. A course fee includes a manual.

The course teaches everything from rescue breathing and CPR to how to treat dehydration, bone and soft-tissue injuries, and poisoning. Manikins will be provided for the training. No live animals are allowed during the class.

BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL PLANNED: The 30th annual Valley Lake Bluegrass Festival will be held from 7 to 11:15 p.m. June 27 and 1 to 11 p.m. June 28 at Valley Lake Campgrounds, 3959 state Route 305, Southington. For information, call 330-240-1904. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.

SAFE SITTER TRAINING FOR YOUTHS: Registration for the first session of the Safe Sitter program, sponsored by Humility of Mary Health Partners, will close Tuesday. The two-day Safe Sitter course teaches boys and girls ages 11 to 13 how to be ideal baby sitters.

Topics covered include basic first aid, rescue breathing, accident prevention, childcare tips, what to do if a child chokes, and how and when to call for help. Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.

The Safe Sitter course will be repeated July 9 and 10 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, July 23 and 24 at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren, and Aug. 6 and 7 at St. Elizabeth.

PATIO EVENTS AT LIBRARY: The Patio Pipsqueaks will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Warren-Trumbull County Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren. Preschoolers will be introduced to the garden with age-appropriate stories, crafts, hands-on gardening, science and observation.

The program is for children ages 3 to 5. The Patio Pals for ages 6 to 12 will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at main library. There will be stories, crafts, hands-on gardening, science and observation. Registration is required for both programs by calling 330-399-8807, Ext. 206.

YOGA FOR KIDS: The Sun Salutations Yoga Lab will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Lordstown Branch Library, 1471 Salt Springs Road. Participants will soak up the sun with basic yoga routines and enjoy some healthy snacks. Teens should wear comfortable clothes and bring a towel or blanket to sit on.
