STAMP CLUB TO HOST SHOW: The Warren Area Stamp Club will hold its 23rd annual spring stamp show, Trumpex 2014, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Saint Demetrios Community Center, 3223 Atlantic St., Warren.

Vendors will be available to buy and sell stamps. Greek and American food will be available for purchase. Admission is free.

NAACP MEETS TODAY: The Trumbull County Branch of the NAACP is bringing financial literacy and economic resources to the community by hosting a Financial Empowerment Coffee Chat from noon to 1 p.m. today at the ACOP Center, 2051 Niles Road.

This is the second annual Financial Freedom Month Campaign sponsored by the National NAACP Economic Department. All young adults are encouraged to attend.

SOCIETY TO MEET: Howland Historical Society’s next meeting is 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Howland Administration Building. Traci Manning, curator of education at the Mahoning Valley Historical Society in Youngstown, will be the guest speaker. The program is on the Native American Indians of the Mahoning Valley.

The meeting is free, with light refreshments served.

WPS SUPPORTS GIRARD SPECIAL OLYMPICS: Since 2011, the WPS has supported the Girard Special Olympics, which will be held today at the Girard Arrowhead Stadium.

WPS photographers photograph all events, and at the end of the day, accumulate all photos, which are put onto CDs that are given to all schools attending the event.

ROUND TABLE TO MEET: The Mahoning Valley Civil War Round Table will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Antone’s Banquet Centre in Boardman.

Clark B. Hall, co-founder of the Association for the Preservation of Civil War Sites, is the guest. His topic will be The Emergence of Federal Cavalry at the Battle of Brandy Station. Dinner meetings are $13 per person, and reservations are required.

WEAVERS GUILD TO MEET: The Weavers Guild will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Colonial Inn on the Canfield Fairgrounds in Canfield. A workshop on “Theo Moorman Techniques in Weaving” will be led by Liz Andraso. Attendees should bring a four-harness threaded loom, a sack lunch and mug – takeout also is available – plus show and tell.

GARDEN CLUB TO PLANT: The Hubbard Junior Garden Club is planning its spring plant and bake sale from 9 a.m. to noon May 17 in the City Building parking lot.

Club members are potting up their favorite plants. Money generated will be put back into the community in beautification projects.

HERB SOCIETY MEETS: John Gilmore of Gilmore Greenhouse Florist hosted the Trumbull County Herb Society for an inside look at its planting and transplant areas including a demonstration of their seed planting machine.

Refreshments were served by the club, and members were free to browse for an early look at the spring flowers and herbs. Members were excited about the praying mantis egg cases they purchased to help with their organic gardening efforts.

The May 19 meeting will be a program on ”Heirloom Seed and Seed Saving” by Wanda Kover. Members who wish can bring their plants for the spring plant swap.

The June 16 meeting is ”Antiques Road Show” with Darryl McGuire. Members can bring an item or two for appraisal.

Both meetings are at 7 p.m. at the Champion Presbyterian Church on the corner of Champion Street and Mahoning Avenue.
