Sign language play planned

SPECIAL PERFORMANCE: The Hubbard High School’s American Sign Language classes are performing “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” in sign language (with voice over) at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday at Hubbard High School auditorium. The play is under the direction of instructor Richard Magazzine.

EGG EVENT FOR CHILDREN: Warren First Assembly of God, Parkman Road, will hold an Easter Eggstravaganza from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday with a superhero theme. Batman will be there and available for pictures with the children. Egg hunts are broken down by age groups. The event is for ages 2 to 10. Those younger than 7 need to be accompanied by an adult.

DOG GROUP SPONSORS FUNDRAISERS: Legacy Dog Rescue is holding an Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Ponderosa on Elm Road in Warren. There will be face painting, Easter basket raffle and adoptable dogs, weather permitting, from 2 to 4 p.m.

DOLLY’S LIBRARY GETS BOOKS FOR KIDS: The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley and Covelli Enterprises this week announced a new initiative called Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at the Austintown Panera Bread. With help from the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, the goal is to put a book in every child’s hand from birth to age five. The United Way, Covelli Enterprises, and the public library all want the children of Mahoning County to achieve their third grade reading level by helping them read at an early age.

SCOUTS TO B E HONORED: The Greater Western Reserve Council, Boy Scouts of America will recognize four individuals with the Silver Beaver Award Saturday at Lakeview High School in Cortland.

The 2013 Silver Beaver Recipients and National Outstanding Eagle Scout awards will be presented. They are two of the highest awards a local council can bestow upon a volunteer. The 2013 Silver Beaver honorees are Richard Jugenheimer, Dr. Tim A. Kneen, Dr. Jeff Sutton and Mark Fogarty.
