Robotics team competes at Chicago event
CHAMPION – The Champion High School Lightning Bots Robotics Team competed this month at the Midwest Regional robotics events in Chicago.
The Champion team was one of three from Trumbull County taking part in For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology regional competitions held in March and April. The other teams were from Girard and Harding high schools.
The CHS Robotics Team No. 2010, sponsored by Delphi Corp and Cleveland Communications, credit the leadership of Mark Baka, who is retiring his Team 2010 jersey this year.
“The team had a rough start the first few matches but were able to finish off well. We finished 19th out of 53 teams and were selected by the eighth-seeded alliance for the elimination matches. Although we didn’t win our semifinal rounds, the kids were pumped and really had a good time and experience,” Baka said.
The Champion team competed in March at the Buckeye Regional in Cleveland and earned the Industrial Safety Award, taking 17th place out of 54 teams.
To help raise funds for this season, the team held the annual “Are You Smarter Than A Robotics Student?” event in December with Miss Ohio Heather Wells among the participants.
Girard and Harding also ended their competitons this spring have each competed at many regional level events.
