Kent shooting is topic of talk
KENT STATE SHOOTINGS: The Vienna Historical Society will host “A Place in History: Kent State University May 4 Visitors Center” at 7 p.m. today at the township hall. Laura Davis, director of the Visitor’s Center will discuss the May 4, 1970, shooting at Kent State and the visitors center.
MOTHER’S DAY SHOW: D.C. Chiropractic, 1219 Niles Cortland Road S.E., Howland, will present a Mother’s Day vendor and shopping extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds from the event will benefit Phoenix House Wellness Center. The free event will include a 50-50 raffle and Chinese auction. For information, call 330-505-3515.
PLANT SALE: The Friends of the Greenhouse Consortium will hold its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and May 10 at Packard Park Greenhouse. FOGC, an all volunteer organization, provides many of the public plantings in and around Warren for no charge and the care and maintenance of the greenhouse.
DAY OF PRAYER: Hubbard Christians in Action will hold a National Day of Prayer at noon Thursday at Tylee Park. The prayer will be led by Pastor Luke Oskin. A luncheon will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Central Christian Church. The HCIA is an ecumenical group of laypersons and clergy in the Hubbard / Masury churches serving the needs of the community.
MOTHER’S DAY TEA: The Greene Historical Society will hold its annual Mother’s Day tea at 1 p.m. Sunday at Greene Township Hall. For reservations, call 330-583-3745.
COOKING AND NUTRITION: The Ohio State University Extension, Trumbull County, will be offering Dining with Diabetes 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 6, 13 and 20 at the Agriculture and Family Education Building, 520 W. Main St, Cortland. The event is a cooking school and nutrition education program designed for people with diabetes and their family members or caregivers. In a series of three classes, cooking demonstrations will help individuals learn healthy techniques to use in their own kitchen. Registration for the classes can be made by calling 330-638-6783. FARM GROUP TO MEET: Food and Agriculture gathering will be held at 8 a.m. Friday at the Gustavus Federated Church, corner of Routes 87 and 193 in Gustavus. An election of officers will also be held for the next year. This will be the last meeting until September. Guest speaker is county commissioner Frank Fuda, who will discuss recent news and activities of the commissioner’s office Food and Ag events are educational programs of interest to agriculture and rural Trumbull County.
