Annual spring cleanup planned

ASSOCIATION PLANS CLEANUP: The Kenmore Neighborhood Association will hold its annual spring cleanup starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the AETNA building, 2507 Youngstown Road, Warren. Lunch will be provided to volunteers. For information, call Liz Balint at 330-369-3773.

WARREN SOUP EVENT: Warren SOUP will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Mahoning Valley Hope Center, 3217 Surrey Road, Warren. There will be presentations from local groups and soup available. Those attending will be able to vote on which group’s project should receive a micro-grant.

ART EVENT AT LIBRARY: Art in the Afternoon will be held at 4 p.m. today at Main Library of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren. Children in first to sixth grades can experiment with different media. Registration is required by calling 330-399-8807, Ext. 206.

YOUNG ENGINEERS: Brookfield Branch Library, 7032 Grove St., will hold a program for young engineers in kindergarten to sixth grade from 5 to 7 p.m. today to create structures with the library’s collection of building blocks. Structures will remain on display at the library.

BENEFIT PLANNED: A benefit to help Laura McAfoose Sylvester, who is battling osteopmyelitis, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Hubbard, 22 Westview Drive. There will be auctions and a raffle. Money raised will help with medical bills.

Sylvester’s illness is in remission. Osteomyelitis is a rare but serious infection in the bone that travels through the bloodstream and tissue. It takes many medical procedures to cure and keep in remission.

COMMITTEE TO MEET: The Howland Wellness Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the office of Dr. Jim LaPolla, 8588 E. Market St. A recent initial meeting went over preliminary guidelines and planning a calendar of events. It is a volunteer committee.

CHURCHES HOLD EVENTS: Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2050 Oakdale Ave., Warren, will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, which is bag day.

St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, at the corner of Parkman Road and Oak Street, Warren, will have a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

PLANT SALE: Friends of the Greenhouse Consortium will hold its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Packard Park shelter house. FOGC, an all volunteer organization, provides many of the public plantings in and around Warren for no charge and the care and maintenance of the greenhouse.
