Autism Awareness Month to kick off
YOUNGSTOWN – The Autism Society of Ohio, Mahoning Valley, the regional chapter of the Autism Society of America, is hosting a variety of events for April as part of ”National Autism Awareness Month.”
To kick off the month, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, ASO-MV is partnering with OH WOW! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology to offer a free Sensory Sensitive Night at its Youngstown facility.
Event organizers said the event, which will include a night of exploration, is being offered in celebration of International Autism Awareness Day.
The science center is offering sensory friendly hours for families, caretakers, and children affected by autism or other challenges that make the normal museum atmosphere and noise levels trying. Supports will include dimmed lighting and reduced sound, quiet area and low impact exploration in Function Junction, museum picture guide and the opportunity for parents and caretakers to connect with each other and local Autism Society contacts and support groups.
The Hine Memorial Fund of the Youngstown Foundation is making the event possible.
The Autism Society of Ohio is dedicated to improving the lives of all affected by autism in Ohio through information and referral, family support, advocacy, professional development, raising awareness and resource development.
