St. Rose hosts winter cook off

WINTER WARM-UP COOK OFF: St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St., Girard, will hold a winter warm-up cook off from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Rosetta Hall. The event will include various chefs. Awards will be presented, including “People’s Choice.” Tickets are available at the parish office. Interested chefs and volunteers can call Cathy at 330-759-7949.

LIBRARY PLANS GAME EVENTS: The Hubbard Public Library, 436 W. Liberty St., is holding sign-ups for game get-togethers including Scrabble, chess, and Monopoly. There will be morning and afternoon sessions. Cribbage will be held in the evenings. Hours are 10 a.m. to noon and from 5 to 7 p.m. Call the library to register at 330-534-3512, Ext. 6. Dates are Feb. 18, March 6 and 18 and April 3 and 15.

KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP: McDonald Roosevelt Elementary School will hold kindergarten roundup from 9 to 11 a.m. today and March 11, 5 to 7 p.m. March 27 and 9 a.m. to noon April 12. Children must be age 5 before Sept. 30. For information, call 330-530-8051.

HISTORY OF CANAL DISCUSSED: The Trumbull County Geneaological Society will meet at 10:15 a.m. today in the Thomas Meeting Room of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library. Speaker is Jim McFarland, who will be talking about the trials and tribulations that led to the making of Warren and Pennsylvania’s canal, and also the making of the new historical marker on Courthouse Square.
