ENERGY PROGRAM OFFERED: The Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership and the Ohio Development Services Agency offer the Electric Partnership Program to help eligible residents in Mahoning County find out if their appliances are energy-efficient.
If eligible, the program provides residents with new compact fluorescent light bulbs and possibly replaces a refrigerator and / or freezer with a new Energy Star model. PANEL TO DISCUSS MANDELA: A panel discussion on the Legacy of Nelson Mandela will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Chestnut Room of the Kilcawley Center on the Youngstown State University campus.
Mandela emerged from prison to become the first democratically elected president of South Africa.
SOCIETY TO MEET: The Audubon Society of the Mahoning Valley will present “The Good, the Bad, the Delicious” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mill Creek Metroparks Farm, state Route 46, in Canfield.
The program is about the bugs found in the yards and the bugs the birds love to eat, presented by Dr. Bill Snyder.
TOASTMASTERS HOLD SPRING CONTEST: The Toastmasters Area 13 spring contest will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at The Raymond John Wean Foundation Building, 147 W. Market St., Warren. The contest features club winners in the International Speech and Evaluation Contest from the Youngstown and Stow Toastmasters clubs, which are part of District 10 area covering Ohio from Cleveland to Harrison County in the south.
In the International Speech Contest, the contestant selects the subject and type of speech to give, and the speech is judged on the overall presentation using a point system for various categories of skills.
In an Evaluation Contest, a test speaker or a target speaker gives a speech, and then all of the contestants leave the room, returning one at a time to evaluate the same speech. The winner of each contest will advance to the district contest. Doors will open at 9 a.m., contestant briefing at 9:30 a.m., and the contest start at 10 a.m.
