Scouts to relive Gold Rush days
SCOUTS TAKE PART IN KLONDIKE DERBY: The Whispering Pines District of the Greater Western Reserve Council Boy Scouts of America is sponsoring its annual Boy Scout Klondike Derby Friday to Sunday at Camp Stambaugh, 3712 Leffingwell Road, Canfield. The outdoor event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The derby includes competition between troop patrols involving all Boy Scout Troops in Mahoning County and Hubbard. More than 200 scouts and more than 50 adult leaders will be participate. Patrols will compete against each other at seven stations along the Yukon Trail, using skills they have learned in scouting. Stations will be reminiscent of the Klondike Gold Rush days in Alaska. Each station involves a different skill such as cooking, signaling, sled race, mule pull, log hoist, first aid and building a fire. Scouts have been trained in winter camping. REVIVAL SET AT CHURCH: Champion Church of God, 580 Center St. East, will hold a revival nightly through Friday at the church, featuring evangelists Rob and Rubie Smith.
SOCIETY HOSTS SPEAKER: The Hubbard Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the senior center, Hubbard Municipal Building, 220 W. Liberty St. President Emanuel Mageros will give a presentation on the history of Hubbard using slides.
