Local history night planned

NIGHT OF LOCAL HISTORY: The Vienna Historical will host a “A Night of Local History” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Vienna Township Hall. Fowler Historical Society President Dave Cover will speak about Vienna’s Rake and Harrow Factory, Tyrell Hill Railroad Station and Surveyor’s Chains Acreage Markers.

BENEFIT TO HELP FUND: A seventh annual benefit fundraiser for the Lena, Mason and Christian Memorial Fund will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Hall, 26 West Wilson Ave., Girard. Proceeds from the event directly benefit the children in the community in need, in loving memory of the three who perished in a house fire. This single annual event is the main mechanism used to raise funds for the positive activities performed. The Lena, Mason and Christian Memorial Fund was able to give away more than 450 bookbags filled with school supplies at the annual Kids Free Fun day/Book Bag Giveaway held in August. NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH: In honor of January being National Mentoring Month, Enactus Group and managers from local Chase Banks have developed a partnership to offer high school and college students the opportunity to collaborate in education and mentorship to better prepare for the future. The IM Financial Literacy Program is a group effort that teaches the importance of budgeting, balancing and saving money. Inspiring Minds students will present their final projects as “financial advisors” to “families” in front of Kent State professors, Kent State Enactus members and Chase Bank managers from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Kent State University Trumbull Campus, Room 223, second floor of the Classroom Administration Building.

FOUNDATION PRESENTS CHECK: The Home Savings Charitable Foundation presented $10,000 to the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The funds will be used to support the Regional Chamber’s economic development initiatives for local business retention, expansion and North American attraction.
