Applications taken for police academy
WARREN – Applications are being accepted for the Warren Police Department’s Citizens Police Awareness Academy Training (C.P.A.A.T.) with the next class is scheduled to start in February.
Tina Milner, an instructor, said residents can obtain an application from the City of Warren website, www.warren.org, or by stopping from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Warren Police records department, 141 South St.
She said during the eight-week course, residents are given an overview of police policies and procedures, tour of the county jail, police ride along, training on use of deadly force in a “shoot, not shoot” simulated scenario, remarks by Warren’s administration and police chief, presentations by the city prosecutor’s office, drug task force and health department
Also, training classes cover community safety initiatives (for anyone interested in starting or currently a part of a neighborhood watch) and it strengthens community relations with area law enforcement.
The police department has been running the Citizen’s Police Awareness Academy Training since the fall 2011 and has had more than 300 residents from Warren and surrounding areas submit applications for participation in the classes.
