Santa Claus set to visit library

SANTA TO VISIT LIBRARY: Santa Claus will visit the Girard Free Library, 105 E. Prospect St., at 6 p.m. Monday. The event will include crafts free pictures with Santa, Pete and Penny Penguin, and Rapunzel and a prince.

CONCERT SET: Chords of Christmas, a northeastern Ohio rock and roll Christmas experience, will perform two concerts at 6 and 9 p.m. Saturday at Creekside Dome in Girard. The band will perform the music of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Tickets call 330-652-6412.

FOOD BANK RECEIVES DONATION: Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley received a $231 donation from local TGI Fridays Can For A Fan Virtual campaign. TGI Fridays also donated a can for every like the TGI Fridays Boardman Facebook local pages received as well.

PERFORMANCES SET: Tapestries of Ohio, the 18th annual Medieval celebration and Christmas with period musical instruments, songs from the 15th and 17th centuries, drama and dining, will have performances at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church in Warren. RECIPIENT NAMED: Three United Way agencies competed to be the recipient of the First Place Bank and United Way’s Lifting Hearts Holiday Toy Drive. The Boys and Girls Club received the most votes.

New, unwrapped toys and gifts may be delivered to any First Place Bank branch through Dec. 18. Once the items are collected, the local Boys and Girls Club will distribute them to the needy children and teens it serves.

First Place Bank will make a monetary donation to the two other United Way organizations that were in the running, the Salvation Army and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

AGENCY GETS HELP: The Newton Falls Church Mouse was recently presented a $4,000 donation from the Newton Falls Lions Club. The main role of the Lions Club is to help people with vision problems get exams and glasses but they always find money to help buy food for those less fortunate.

UNITED WAY STARTS PROCESS: The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley will open its funding process to any nonprofit organization delivering health and human services in Mahoning County and in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard in Trumbull County.

The initiatives promotes education, income, health and community support services. Nonprofit organizations wishing to apply for funding through United Way should visit www.ymvunitedway.org. Grant applications must be submitted by Feb. 14.

GAMBLING SUPPORT GROUP: Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at Christ Church Presbyterian, 3425 Hopkins Road, Youngstown (in Cornersburg). Both meetings are closed meetings to only those suffering from gambling addictions. Call 330-505-5060.
