Nursing home creates outdoor display
WARREN – A snow village complete with various winter scenes of snowmen and more has been set up at the newly opened Signature Health Care in Warren.
Signature officially opened on Dec. 1 off North River Road and one of the first things done was the creation of a winter scene in the Garland Patio.
Holly Herholtz, marketing / admissions director for Signature Health Care, said the residents invited their families and friends for the Christmas party and enjoyed showing them the snow village.
She said the village was a collaborative effort and the staff and residents even created a book to tell the story of the village.
“This is the residents’ home and we want this to be a tradition each Christmas they can be part of,” she said noting plans are to expand each year by adding new sections.
“Everyone has their own tradition and this will be ours,” Herholtz said.
She said many of the residents helped make the snowmen, which were placed in one of several scenes.
Resident Shirley Boyer said she was happy to see the display, which allows the residents like her who can’t always go outside because of the cold weather to have something nice to look at from inside.
”It’s really pretty and nice to have here. I was shocked that they could do all this so quickly. It’s good for the residents,” she said.
”The little snow people our residents crafted. This was their vision and their ideas,” Herholtz said.
Herholtz said the book, “Just the Right Home” was created to go along with the display.
Patti Lasher, quality of living director, said all the staff and residents had fun with the creation, with each person doing his or her part.
Lasher herself added the reindeer ”Clarisse” from the television show ”Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” to the display.
”We wanted to try different things, Next year we plan to add on to it and go beyond the patio and down the hill,” Lasher said.
The winter scene will remain in place through January.
