Concert of Giving to benefit needy

CONCERT TO HELP FOOD BANK: The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band and Stambaugh Chorus will host the third annual Holiday Concert of Giving at 4 p.m. today at Stambaugh Auditorium. Admission is a cash donation to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank.

The event is to raise money to feed hungry families in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band will perform many holiday favorites, including selections from “The Polar Express,” Russian Christmas Music, “White Christmas” and the “Hallelujah Chorus.” For every $1 given at the concert, the Food Bank can distribute $15 worth of food to families that need it most this holiday season.

SANTA TO VISIT: Santa Claus will arrive at the Vienna Township Hall, state Route 193, at 1 p.m. today to visit with children.

LIBRARY HOLDS SCIENCE EVENT: Young Science Wizards will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Warren-Trumbull County Main Library for children in grades K-6. Children will experience the magical world of science with hands-on activities. Registration is required at 330-399-8807, Ext. 206.

HELPING KEEP WARM: Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Youngstown is calling upon Catholics and other to support a special parish and community collection for winter utility assistance for families in need. The “Keep the Kids Warm” campaign will take place between the Feast of the Holy Family (Dec. 29) and the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord (Jan. 12). Funds raised through the effort are returned to the counties in which they were collected to provide direct assistance to families in need. The program assists working poor families who do not qualify for government assistance. Last year, Catholic Charities provided utility assistance to impact 4,948 people. Catholic Charities expects an increase in the number of people requesting utility assistance in the months ahead. DRAWING TO BE HELD: The Trumbull Senior Production will hold a drawing at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Santisi’s IGA in Girard. The winning ticket will be from the $150 Christmas Lottery Tree. The cashier who sold the most tickets will receive a $100.

PEACE LIGHT AVAILABLE: The Peace Light from Bethlehem is available through Dec. 23 at the Boy Scout headquarters, 4930 Enterprise Blvd. N.W., from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. GROUP SETS MEETING: Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area.
