Pet event set at Tod Park in Girard

MASQUERADE BALL SET FOR PETS: A Pet Masquerade Ball and St. Francis Pet Care’s Birthday Celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Tod Park in Girard. Proceeds from the event will help the St. Francis Cadets for Pets youth program.

Activities include a pet costume contest, best friend lookalike contest and fashion show at noon, a choreographed dance demonstration at 12:45 p.m., and blessing of pets with the Rev. John Zuraw of St. Rose Parish at 1 p.m.

Various activities and events will be held including face painting, bone hunt, pet photos, auction, raffle and giveaways. Third-grade students in Trumbull and Mahoning counties will be honored as winners in their school for “Caring for Pet” contest. Their art will be on display.

DOG EVENT SET AT PARK: Legacy Dog Rescue will sponsor Bow-Wow-Ween, a community Halloween event from 11 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Austintown Township Park, Pogany Pavilion, 6000 Kirk Road.

Dogs must be leashed at all times, up to date on vaccinations and handled by an adult. Among the features will be costume contest, pet/kid photos, refreshments, auction, raffle, games and food. Vendors and other rescue groups will also be present.

Proceeds will help Legacy Dog Rescue, a local nonprofit group, save dogs that have been abandoned, abused or neglected, and place them into homes.

SURVEY CONDUCTED: The Mosquito Lake Greenway Project is conducting a survey to assess a sense of community within the Mosquito Lake communities of Cortland, Bazetta and Mecca. The data will also help position our project for funding.

The project proposes encircling the southern part of Mosquito Lake with a greenway to be used by pedestrians and bicyclists.
