Scouts hosts annual roundup

The Greater Western Reserve Council Boy Scouts of America is seeking area youth to be part of scouting.

During September, local Cub Scout Packs in Mahoning County and parts of Trumbull County are hosting recruitment nights called round-ups to let boys experience a little of the fun and adventure that Scouts experience all year long.

Opportunities to join scouting include:

Today, Pack 100, 3 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 48 Church St., Hubbard. 330-272-1411;

Friday, Pack 22, 6:30 p.m., St. Christine Catholic School, 3125 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown. 330-509-0062;

Sept. 30, Pack 184, 6:30 p.m., St. Joseph’s Church, 4545 New Road, Austintown. 330-793-2305.

Cub Scouting is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first through fifth grades.

In other scouting news, Mike Kupec of the Scouts said the Whispering Pines District held its annual recognition and awards dinner recently at Camp Stambaugh at Canfield.

The recognition dinner honored 34 males who have earned their Eagle Scout Award in 2012, the highest award possible in Boy Scouts.

Also being honored were Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, Venturing Crews and Scout volunteers.
