BENEFIT DANCE TO HELP WOMAN: The Penn-Ohio Polka Pals will hold a benefit dance from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Kuzman’s Lounge in Girard to help Helen Bond. There will be a memorial to U.S. steelworkers of Hungarian heritage of Youngstown. The event will include polka dancing, music and a quarter auction.
BLOOD DRIVES HELD: Humility of Mary Health Partners will hold blood drives at the Shepherd of the Valley centers and the At Home With Shepherd Home Health / Corporate Office through September. The drives will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Shepherd of Valley, 1500 McKinley Ave., Niles, and Wednesday at Home with Shepherd Home Health, 5525 Silica Road, Austintown.
RUMMAGE SALE SET: Liberty Presbyterian Church, 1451 Churchill-Hubbard Road, is holding a rummage from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The church is accepting donations of clean, gently used clothing, books and furniture. Items can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to noon today.
PINK RIBBON WALK SET: Trumbull Memorial Hospital, an affiliate of ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, will hold its eighth-annual Pink Ribbon Run/Walk on Sept. 28. The event, sponsored by the Trumbull Memorial Hospital Healthy Woman program, raises cancer awareness for prevention, diagnosis and survivorship, while encouraging health and fitness. The event includes a 1 mile or certified 5K course that participants can either walk or run. The course begins near the bridge at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Prizes will be awarded. SILLY SUNDAY FOCUSES ON SCIENCE: OH?WOW!?The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology in Youngstown will host “Silly Science Sunday” from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at West Federal Street and Central Square, Youngstown. There will be various activities including watermelon explosions. Optical illusions will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Sept. 26 for all ages. The center is closed today through Saturday to prepare for the weekend event and install a new exhibit.
PET RESCUE EVENT: Pet Rescues in the Park will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Grove City Memorial Park in Grove City, Pa. The event will bring together rescue organizations from eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania to showcase adoptable animals.
