Idora Park is topic of talk

IDORA PARK TOPIC OF PROGRAM: The Vienna Historical Society will have guest speaker Dr. Rick Shale, a Youngstown State University professor, speaking on the history of Idora Park at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township hall.

HISTORY MUSEUM TO BE FEATURED: The Audubon Society of the Mahoning Valley will hold a “Birds, Bugs and Botany” program at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, state Route 46, Canfield. Judy Semroc of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History will speak about where to look for birds based on their food preference.

DUCK DERBY TO BE FUNDRAISER: Someplace Safe, Trumbull County’s domestic violence shelter, will host its third annual Duck Derby on Saturday at Lake Vista, 303 N. Mecca Street, Cortland. All proceeds collected benefit Someplace Safe. Tickets are available at Lake Vista the day of the event or can be purchased in advance by calling 330-393-3005.

ALZHEIMER’S MONTH RECOGNIZED: September is World Alzheimer’s Month and the local Home Instead Senior Care office is making available free resources, including a free workshop for family members where they will receive training to help them deal with the challenging behaviors that often result from Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The workshop will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Home Instead Senior Care, 45 N. Canfield Niles Road., Suite 600, Austintown. A free Confidence to Care at Home kit will be provided.
