Fundraiser set for Betty’s Angels
GROUP PLANS FUNDRAISERS: Betty’s Angels will meet at 6 p.m. today at Howland Community Church with guest speaker Marie Brown for Homeless Veterans. Betty’s Angels is a private shelter in Howland, and will host a Golf outing Oct. 5, and an annual Christmas Fashion Show on Dec. 7. The theme is ”Women of the Military,” and the group is looking for women from World War II to present.

JOANIE’S PROM NIGHT SET: The Joanie’s Promise Night will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, 1044 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, on the campus of St. Elizabeth Health Center.
The free event is open to uninsured and underinsured women 40 to 64 years old who meet financial eligibility requirements. There will be free health screenings, breast exams and mammograms.

SCANNER CLUB SETS MEETING: The Greater Youngstown Monitoring Association Scanner Club will meet at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St. Anyone interested in scanner monitoring or amateur radio hobby is welcome.
FOUNDATION PRESENTS CHECK: The Home Savings Charitable Foundation presented a $25,000 check to the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. The YNDC will construct the workshop to conduct planning, training, agricultural and neighborhood project activities year-round.
The workshop facility will bolster the ability of YNDC to serve low-income neighborhoods across the city and will strengthen the capacity of resident groups to conduct neighborhood improvement activities.
BRUNCH WITH THE DOCTOR: Dr. Bryan Cecil and Dannielle Macduff, naturopath and nutritional adviser, are hosting a free community brunch and interactive forum at 11 a.m. Saturday in their Howland office, 1219 Niles Cortland Road S.E., Warren. The public will be able to learn to cook and prepare easy, healthy food for meals, particularly targeting those with chronic diseases and illnesses, diabetes, heart disease and cancers. OUTDOOR EVENT FOR KIDS: Armstrong Antlers and Anglers will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Boardman Park. The first 200 kids through the gate will receive a free fishing pole.
Free activities include fishing, archery, simulated duck hunting, music with the Red Dust Mountain Boys, cooking demonstrations, a marketplace, petting zoo, wagon rides and nature scavenger hunt. Admission is free with a non-perishable food item. Proceeds benefit Second Harvest Food Bank.
