Day of events to honor POW-MIA

POW-MIA RECOGNITION INCLUDES LAYING OF ROSES: The Trumbull County POW-MIA Recognition Day observance and Laying of the Roses ceremony will be held at noon Friday in Monument Park in Warren.

The observance is to honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the Vietnam War and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The observance and displays, including a Missing Man Table, Armed Services flag display, and replica POW Cage that would have been used during Vietnam, will be shown from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Courthouse Square, where Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club members and the Trumbull County Veterans Memorial Committee will be.

Recognition Days are held across the country on the third Friday in September on military installations, ships at sea, state capitols, schools and veterans’ facilities.

ETHNIC SOCIETY TO HOST EVENT: The Ethnic Heritage Society of the Mahoning Valley and Happy Heart Tamburitzans will host an event to foster the ethnic cultures of the area from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Kravitz Deli, 3135 Belmont Ave., Liberty.

Churches and cultural organizations throughout the Valley are challenged by the need to interest young people in their heritage. The event will include Croation Tamburitzan music, youth work and comments from members of the Happy Hearts Croation Tamburitzans, who recently returned from an international convocation in Zagreb, Croatia.
