Play area to be dedicated on Sunday

DEDICATION SET FOR PLAY AREA: A dedication, ribbon-cutting and official opening of Toddler Park will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in Howland Township Park. The park board and other officials will attend. The project was for a local Girl Scout’s Silver Award.

The play area will be for children younger than 6 who are encouraged to bring their tricycles to ride.

Also at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the North Road nature preservation area off Candlelight Drive and North Road in Howland will be the opening of a tree identification walk and game done by local scouts for a Girl Scout Silver Award. Trumbull Metropark personnel are scheduled to attend.

SOCIAL PLANNED: Warren Area Board of Realtors will sponsor an ice cream social benefitting the United Way from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at 345 High St., Warren. Ice cream is being donated by Katie’s Korner. Boy Scout Troop 101 will be in attendance.

EVENT SET FOR RETURN TO SCHOOL: An event to mark the return of local students to school will be held at noon Saturday at the Alliance Community Outreach Center, Niles Road, Warren. The event will include raffles, refreshments and prayers for the students.

SUMMER ASSISTANCE: The summer crisis program will continue through August for income eligible households. The last day for application will be Aug. 30. TCAP will see all Trumbull County households interested in applying for the program as walk-ins every Monday. All others are by appointment.

The program provides assistance to low income households with an elderly member, 60 or older or households that can provide physician documentation that a household member would benefit from an air conditioner or continued electric service.

PROGRAM FOR NOON IN PARK: The weekly Noon in the Park will be held from noon to 1 p.m. with Rebecca Wohlever Inspired by Nature and History. The farmers market will be held from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

BOY SCOUTS HOLD PREPAREDNESS DRILL: Boy Scout Troop 60 is hosting an emergency preparedness drill that will encompass skills learned over the past years. Scouts ranging from ages 11 to 17 will be applying techniques learned in first aid, search and rescue, emergency preparedness, orienteering and leadership.

The event is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Beaver Township Nature Preserve, Highway 165. Local safety forces will take part in the event to simulate a two car crash with eight victims with various injuries.
