Pirate Fest set for this weekend

PIRATE FEST SET: The fourth annual Miskito Pirate Fest will be held Friday to Sunday at the Mosquito Lake Marina, Cortland. The free weekend event will include pirate activities, musical entertainment, games, treasure hunt and a magician. The magic show is 3:30 p.m. Saturday. CLASS PLANS PICNIC: The Niles McKinley High School Class of 1988 will hold a 25th reunion picnic at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the large pavilion at Tod Park, Girard. Bring your own food and beverages. Call Annmarie Crish at 330-240-1615 for more information.

GROW PROGRAM HOLDS PICNIC: TNP’s Grow Program joined with many organizations as part of the Mahoning Valley Food Policy Council to hold community potluck style picnics at 6 p.m. Friday at the Laird Community Garden, Laird Avenue S.E., and Grandview St. S.E., Warren. Discussion will include urban gardening, local foods, and neighborhood revitalization.

BOOK SIGNING: Authors Louise Mason and Janine Motley will hold a book signing for their new book “Life Lessons for Little Learners” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Supply Room Inc., 3221 Belmont Ave., Youngstown.

BIKE PARADE AT EVENT: A bike parade will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Brookfield Summerfest event at the township center green. The parade will start at noon at Grove Street in front of Tractor Supply and travel around the green. Those participating can decorate a bike or wagon. There will be prizes in different categories. At 1:15 p.m., prizes will be presented at the gazebo following parade. The cornhole tournament will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday on the green. Registration is at the Brookfield United Methodist Church Youth Group tent.

MIRACLE TREAT DAY: The Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals are celebrating the eighth annual Dairy Queen Miracle Treat Day today. For each treat purchased at participating Dairy Queens, a donation will be made to hospitals, including Akron Children’s Hospital. All donations raised stay in the communities in which they are raised to support local children.
