End of Summer event planned

GIRARD HOLDS END OF SUMMER EVENT: The Girard End of Summer parade will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, with the parade traveling south along U.S. Route 422 from Stambaugh Street, near Churchill Road, to Liberty Street.

There is no fee to participate, but those wanting to be in the parade need to call Joanne at 330-545-0858.

CHILDREN TO GET BACKPACKS: “Operation Impact” backpack giveaway will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Churchill Park, Belmont Avenue, Liberty. The event will include free haircut coupons, school supplies, food and bounce-arounds.

LIBRARY HOSTS SALE: The Grand Valley Public Library, 1 N. School St., Orwell, will hold the annual book sale from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 15 minutes before closing Monday to Aug. 23. There will be various items for sale as part of a yard sale.

CHURCH OFFERS SCHOOL SUPPLIES: Friendship Baptist Church, 1954 Brier St. S.E., Warren, will hold a school supply giveaway at 11 a.m. Saturday for local children. Students need to be present.

GROUP TO PATROL: Members of the Northwest Neighborhood Association will patrol the area starting at 7 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church parking lot on Drexel Avenue. Households in the northwest area are asked to turn on porch lights to show support for the patrol.

The TAG Walk will be at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, with those participating to meet on Commerce Street N.W.

RAILROADS TO BE SHOWN: The Riverside Railroad Train Club will hold an open house of its large scale garden railroad from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Warren SCOPE Center, 220 W. Market St., Warren.

BENEFIT TO HELP ALZHEIMER’S: A benefit with 50-50 drawing, bake sale, auction and dinner will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Community Church, 4600 Eagle Creek Road, Leavittsburg, to benefit the Warren Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

The Warren Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place Sept. 28 in Perkins Park. Organizing the effort is Michael Mansell, a walk volunteer. For information, call 330-675-9262.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the Nation’s largest event to increase awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s support, care and research.
