Spend Saturday on the Square
SATURDAYS ON THE SQUARE: ”Chess is Life” will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturdays through Aug. 31 at Courthouse Square in Warren, where free lessons for children will be offered. Children will learn about the game while in the park.

YMCA OFFERS ACTIVITIES: The YMCA of Warren is offering bocce, cornhole, croquet, Frisbee and lawn games form 3 to 5 p.m. in Courthouse Square Park on Saturdays through Aug. 31.
FAIRHAVEN HOLDING TOURNAMENT: The Fairhaven Foundation’s Charity putting tournament will be held at 6 p.m. today at the course, 3937 Youngstown Road, Warren. Each team will have a member with disabilities, a family member or friend of that person, and a pro Putters Association member. The event is a kickoff for the Tournament Planners northern open tour. LEARN TO SWIM: The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is offering swim classes for various age levels from 3 to 12. Classes will be offered at the Harding High School swimming pool with classes scheduled 12:30 to 3 p.m. July 8 to 18 and July 22 to Aug. 1. To register, call 330-392-2551, Ext. 122.

AMVETS HONORED: Newton Falls AMVETS Post 112 was recently honored by the Trumbull County commissioners for their charitable works and support of veterans. Last year, they were the largest single donor to the Ohio Veterans Home, contributing more than $13,000, awarding four $1,000 college scholarships to seniors at Newton Falls High School, and gifting the Newton Falls Athletic Boosters with a donation of $9,000.

MARKET OPENS: The Market Barn at The Villa Maria Farm in Villa Maria, Pa., is open, offering seasonal produce grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. The market is open from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
