Southington to host open house
SOUTHINGTON GROUP TO HOLD OPEN HOUSE: The Southington Community Trust will meet Saturday and hold an open house of the 1907 school building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plans are to have the building open to the public on the fourth Saturday of each month.
The group has completed some exhibit space in the Chalker Building, are finalizing the text for an Ohio Historical Society History Marker installation and will participate in the Back to School event on Aug. 10 at the township center park.
MISSION COLLECTING SCHOOL SUPPLIES: The Warren Family Mission school supply collection has started. The mission wants to make sure local students are equipped for school this year. All school supply items are needed.
Donations can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday at 2671 Youngstown Road or 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday at 361 Elm Road. Donations are needed by Aug. 16. For information, call 330-394-5437.
ROYAL BABY SHOWER: One Hot Cookie, located in the Erie Terminal Building at the corner of Phelps and Commerce Streets in Youngstown, is hosting a Royal Baby Shower through today. Donations are being accepted to benefit the Sojourner House.
Anyone making a donation of a baby item or cash will receive a free cookie. All items will be accepted. For information, call 330-651-1406.
LOUNGING AT LAKE: Everyday America will perform in concert at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Sugarland tribute band at the Mosquito Lake Marina, Bazetta.
STORYTELLER FOR KIDS: Quaker Steak and Lube, 5800 Interstate Blvd., Austintown, will welcome Connie Randolph, author of the popular Casper Joe book series, for Kids Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The day will included a book signing by the author and book reading by the Quaker Steak’s mascot, Gizzard Coop.
There will be an obstacle course and bounce house.
WORKDAY SET: A Crandall Park Community Workday will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Several vacant homes will be cleaned up, boarded and secured. Those participating are to meet at the corner of Upland and Ohio avenues. Parking is available along Upland and Ohio Avenues.

EVENT TO BENEFIT SECOND HARVEST: Kool Time Kruisers will host the second annual Midnight Car Cruise to drive out hunger at 9 p.m. Saturday in the Pizza Hut in the Oakmont Plaza in Columbiana. Entry fee for cars is $5 or five nonperishable food items to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. Admission to the show is free to the public, but spectators are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items.
Last year’s event raised $1,000 and collected more than 200 pounds of food.
SOCIETY TO HOLD?DINNER: The Leavittsburg Heritage Association is making plans for a fundraising dinner called “Field to Farm,” to be held in a barn at Lutz corn farm on South Leavitt Road at 4 p.m. Sept. 7. Tickets will be sold this week at the LaBrae Homecoming Festival, held today to Sunday at the LaBrae School complex.
TEEN ART STUDIO: A Teen Scene open art studio for children in grades fifth to 12th will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Howland Library Branch, 9095 E. Market St. Participants will learn about different art techniques and create a masterpiece of their own design.

FUNDRAISER?TO?BENEFIT?ANIMAL?CHARITY:?There will be a bake sale and lemonade stand today beginning at noon at 2634 Brandywine Road S.E., Warren, hosted by the Boyle family to benefit the animal charity “For The Dogs.” All proceeds raised will go to the shelter.
