Festivals, carnivals set this weekend

Rides, games, dancing, parades, food, musical entertainment and more are planned for upcoming community festivals and events this week.

The 46th annual St. Demetrios Greek Festival will be held Wednesday to Sunday at the St. Demetrios Center and grounds, 3223 Atlantic St. N.E., Warren. The event will include Greek food, ethnic music, dancing, games and rides. Admission is free. Parking will be available at nearby Lincoln K-8 School. Festival hours are 4 to 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday and 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday with dining room opening at 1 p.m.

The LaBrae Homecoming Carnival will be held Friday to Sunday at the LaBrae School complex grounds off North Leavitt Road. The event will include games, food and entertainment. The parade will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday along North Leavitt Road. A 5K race is at 9 a.m. Saturday and duckie race is at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Leavittsburg Falls. Hours are 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

West Farmington Festival will be held Thursday to Sunday at the park and grounds off College Street. Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Thursday’s activities include opening ceremony with Girl Scouts at 5 p.m., Alligator Eric at 6 p.m. and watermelon-eating contest at 7 p.m. Friday’s activities include opening ceremony with Cub Scouts at 5 p.m., mini horse and pony pull at 6 p.m., cookie contest at 6:30 p.m., and DJ Carole Triplett from 8 to 11 p.m.

Saturday’s activities include horseshoe pitching contest at 7 a.m., 5K Run at 8:30 a.m., chalk on the walk at 11 a.m., cake baking contest at noon, horse pull and car show at 1 p.m., Simply Ed from 2 to 5 p.m., man pull at 3:30 p.m., Swifty the Clown from 5 to 7 p.m., parade at 6 p.m., Huntsburg Band from 7 to 11 p.m. Sunday’s activities include church in the park at 9:30 a.m., small engine tractor pull at 1 p.m., DJ Carole Triplett from 1 to 4 p.m. and watermelon-eating contest at 4 p.m.

The 15th annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Festival will be held on the church grounds, 343 Via Mount Carmel, Youngstown, and include an auction, dunking booth, musical entertainment on two stages, crafts, children’s games, food, and Sunday Mass and procession. The Little Prince and Princess contest is at 7 p.m. Thursday in the social hall. Opening ceremony is at 7 p.m. Friday where college scholarships and Lifetime Achievement Man and Woman of the Year awards will be presented. Italian Made Simple classes will be held from 7 t0 8 p.m. nightly. A procession will be at 1 p.m. Sunday after noon Mass and travel along Via Mount Carmel to the midway. Festival hours are 4 to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 10 p.m. Sunday.
